    May 26, Sean Blackman's 'In Transit' @ The Garden Theater

    In 2010 Detroit guitarist, Sean Blackman staged  In Transit , a multi-cultural blending of international musicians, ethnic dancers, and Detroit jazz masters to a sold out audience at Orchestra Hall. That concert reunited the collaborators featured on Blackman's  In Transit  (Complex Records, 2009), and established a format that continues today as  In Transit Detroit , a monthly concert series at the Garden Theater. Each  In Transit Detroit  arrives at a different musical destination, and the May 26 edition,  A Night in Paris , is my favorite concert of 2016.

    Sean Blackman can remember clutching his guitar before he went to bed and waking up in the morning with it still wrapped tightly in his arms. 

    “I got a guitar for my 12th birthday, and I haven’t put it down since,” Blackman says. “It’s one of those things that I knew, in the moment, that this is my favorite thing in the world.”

    Cultural leader fuses Arab music with Detroit rhythms

    A world music celebration fusing Arab music with danceable Detroit rhythms is coming to The Garden Theatre in Detroit on Thursday, Sept. 29, featuring 11 musicians and belly dancers.

    Clawson resident Sean Blackman – a household name in the world music and jazz scene  – is the creator of the monthly world music and dance concert series In Transit ~ Detroit.
